OMG!!! today i scrub in for a surgery!!! haha.. it was really cool!!! i scrub in then gown and gloved and help the surgeon with the operation! it was a CLOSURE OF ILEOSTOMY ( which is actually part of the intestine where they cut and leave a stoma for the stoma bag) i was really nervous and was starting to perspire though the operation theatre is about 20 degree Celsius haha... BUT the surgeon was very nice and encouraging.. the 1st thing he said was:"1st u have to relax in order to do a good job" which i think is very true LOL... then we start the operation and i passed him the instruments he needed with the help of the senior staff nurse who is also very willing to teach...(cos not all nurses are willing to teach u though u have asked) during the Op, i helped him(surgeon) hold the retractor and artery forceps and even help him cut the stitches when he was stitching the patient.. cos it was my 1st time being a scrub nurse so i wasn't very familiar with the handling of instrument so both the surgeon and staff taught me..haha.. the best thing about the Op is that i get to hold part of the patients intestine with my hands and i can feel the warmth of it.. actually it is nth to be afraid of la.. it just felt like a warm, soft and smooth piece of rubber haha...i am really lucky to get this CASE b'cos all the other friends that scrub in today their Op only take about 5 to 10 minutes b'cos OT is removal of hemarroids (piles) whereby my case took about 30 to 40 minutes which means that i have more exposure to the skills needed during an Op... really enjoyed this posting haha b'cos of the air condition and also b'cos the workload is not a lot compared to the ward plus we do not have to write report in the operation theatre haha but most importantly is that i like fast pace work instead of slow progress LOL... i'm starting to enjoy this posting BUT it is ONLY 1 WEEK...:( now i'm thinking whether to put OT as a choice of ward after i graduate! And if i have a chance in the last 2 days, i would like to scrub in for another case!!! haha...
